Under the direction of the Sheriff's Office, Capital County Search and Rescue coordinator Kathryn Davis leads the command team. When a search fails, she resigns as coordinator and recluses into the sanctuary of a classroom. Kat blames herself for the failed search and loss of an innocent life. There she plans to rebuild her life--away from the field, and away from the man who broke her heart.

One year later, Detective Spencer Allen is in trouble. A young boy has been missing for two days and the team is running out of time. He calls upon Kat to come back and help them find the boy. Despite her vow to never return, Kat agrees to help. She sees it as a chance for redemption and refuses to allow Spencer's presence to affect her in the least this time around. An irresistible attraction re-ignites between them and Kat must decide whether to trust in love again. Spencer is only too happy to show her the benefits of their reunion.
